For the love of JA

No one can ever write like Jane Austen...

But I love her work so much I'll write my own versions of her tales, after all, imitation is the greatest form of flattery.

Sibling Intervention (COMPLETE)
A story focusing on stronger family bonds, friendship before the fall, and a heir to Longbourn.

Reasons why I like it:
  • A non-insipid Lydia, a Kitty I wish I was friends with and a Mary that is the envy of Hertfordshire's music scene.
  • The bond the Bennets share together because I always wished that a family as big as theirs was a close one.
  • No villain!Wickham, a plot device character I've always been annoyed to see play the same role over and over again.
  • It's lightheartedness. I've never been one for angst ridden stories, I'm an absolute baby when it comes to it. After spending many a night crying over fictional characters, I was determined not to put my readers through if with this traipse.
  • Letters to Georgiana whom I've always wanted to know better, and through her letters back and forth to both Lizzy and Darcy, I can.

I'm a little reluctant when it comes to Darcy and Elizabeth's relationship though as it was my first attempt into the fandom and the Dizzy ship has been sailing strong for over a hundred years now, and...the pressure I felt just...nonetheless, I've grown to enjoy writing about them, and of them, together.

Liberties Taken (WORK IN PROGRESS)
Compromising someone both creates and fixes problems. Darcy is convinced. Elizabeth, not so much.

NOTE: This story is still ongoing. No downloads are available at present.
Reasons why I like it:
  • A close friendship between Darcy and Elizabeth
  • BANTER. Dear lord, I love their banter, and I think I really got over my fear of writing about the two together.
  • It focuses far more on Darcy and Elizabeth's relationship, and how everyone else views it.
  • It's lighter in some ways and heavier in others, so there's a balance of fluff and humor as well as some tension and drama too that are purely character driven rather than things happening to the characters and them reacting to it.
  • It's more of a romp then anything else - despite the balance, it was written for fun and I do enjoy updating this story immensely.
  • Taking "liberties" with what we romanticize the regency period to be in terms of the etiquette of the time - though this may be a bad thing to the purists, I'm a firm believer that no time was without it's double standards or the people within that time were as well behaved as we like to think.

Short stories
At this moment, all short stories are only available online.

Almost every after
In which George and Lydia discuss Darcy's future spawn, grandmother material and children of their own.

Reasons why I like it:

  • Modern story
  • Lydia and George, mutually in love.
  • George not being the bad guy.
  • Lydia not being annoying because I know she gets a lot of flak (which is deserved to some degree) and also because I've grown quite attached to the version I've written up of her as someone who can be childish and silly, but also loving and affectionate.
  • That everyone has their happily-ever-after (eh, close enough right?)

Conversations
It's a conversation between two strangers in a bar because of a break-up he didn't see coming, and alcohol. Mainly the alcohol. God bless the beautiful bartender.

Reasons why I like it:

  • Modern story.
  • Darcy being drunk.
  • Lizzy endeared to drunk Darcy.
  • George unintentionally helping him get drunk.
  • Lydia being loud, wild and free.
  • DRUNK DARCY.

Fear of falling
She was going to jump. He was going to do the same. The only reason they hadn't was because they were too busy arguing about who was going to do it first.

Reasons why I like it:

  • Modern story.
  • A Lydia dealing with something serious.
  • A George facing the regret of his past actions.
  • It isn't romance - not because there isn't any hint of it, but because I wanted to put some focus on what it is they were about to do and why, and that despite what they think in the beginning, they aren't as alone as they think they are.
